Dilation of your eye is a necessary part of a complete eye examination by a retina specialist. This process involves placement of eye drops which cause your pupil to become larger, allowing your eye doctor to view the inside of your eye for diagnostic purposes.
While your eyes are dilated, you will likely notice difficulty with near vision and reading, as well as increased light sensitivity. We recommend that you bring sunglasses to your appointment, and if you have never had your eyes dilated, we recommend that you ahev someone drive you home. Your eyes usually return to normal within a few hours. Although uncommon, dilation can last for up to 12 hours in some people.
